I got a leaflet today. Read it; saw the map and my reaction
is ‘this is absolutely outrageous’. The city council is fooling the residents
of the city. When I saw the proposed map, this is absolutely hilarious. The roads,
which are proposed for the 20mph limit, are not residential areas. They are all
major routes of the city, to come in and go out of the city, which connect
parts of the city with each other.
They claim that this proposal includes a mixture of shops,
schools, community centres and ‘residential streets’. If someone believes in
this idea so, I think you are stupid.
This is another way of corruption and generating revenue for
this city. They are planning this with budgets of £200,000. Most of the money
will go in the pockets of the councillors, contractors and corrupt officials
for introducing and implementing this proposal.
By introducing a stupid speed limit of 20mph on major routes
of the city. Council can easily generate revenue because these are big, large,
wide and clear roads. Where one can easily maintain a higher speed level and
can see very easily what’s going on the road.
People need these kinds of limit in true residential areas
where roads are very narrow. Where travelling with high speed can be a hazard,
where you can easily bump into any vehicle and hit anyone with high speed but
why wide and clear roads need 20mph speed limit.
Just to create revenue, to rob people. By implementing
stupid rules and force people to follow it. They want to generate revenue
because on wide, open and clear, you naturally travel at high speed and the
council will give you a fine, points or simply take your right to drive safely.
I think we don’t want our streets back; instead we need our
council back from these corrupt councillors and their stupid ideas.
I think we have to vote against and must vote against these
people who are holding our council.
I don’t understand why the council is wasting money on the
ring road by making it narrower. I have travelled on the ring road, I have seen
the road markings they are making the ring road narrower and making it more
prone to road accidents. It’s very simple, more accidents, more claims, higher
premiums, and higher profits for insurance companies, so high income tax from
these insurance companies.
I don’t understand, rather than spending money in job
creation and reducing crime in the city, why the council is wasting money.
I want to quote some opinions of the residents, which I read
on the Internet.
Kevin Harper, 54, of Wickham Gardens, said 20mph limits at
schools times would be best, adding: “I know they say that at a certain speed
you would survive certain accidents – surely the potholes in the roads are
going to slow everybody down anyway.”
I agree with Kevin, rather than provide us better roads;
they are providing us stupid road limits.
He also added, “they decide what they are going to do and no
matter what you say they just go ahead with it anyway.”
He is right again; taking your opinion is making a fool out
of you. They will do, what they want but we can also do one thing, throw them
out of the council in the next elections and remove all stupid limits from
wide, open and clear roads.
Robert Reynolds of Shenfield Gardens, Rise Park, said that
while he agrees with 20mph limits on the residential roads in the area, the
larger roads should be exempt.
He added: “These are wide highways, deliberately designed
with few private drive accesses.”
He said the city council was “taking the easy way out by
slapping a blanket 20mph speed restriction on the whole district without giving
thought to the consequences.”
