To,
Lilian Greenwood,
Member Parliament,
South Nottingham, UK
Dear Madam,
My name is Sajan. I am a resident of South Nottingham. I am
from South Asia. I have a girl friend; she is also from South Asia. Some of her
family members are British. Her family is trying to get her married forcefully.
I was going through the news of past and current on the
issue of force marriages in Britain.
Where I have found that there are many cases of force
marriages and criminals are taken to court and got punished for their deeds.
But I can see there is no decrease in this crime. People are
still practicing this sin. I don’t know why the government of Britain is
failing to get rid of this disease from their soil.
I think if the government will not act soon this will become
a part of the British culture.
I have seen a British passport. On a page, it says that ‘the
government of Britain can strip any person from British citizenship in certain
cases’.
I like to ask instead of punishing the followers of force marriages
by sending them to jail. Why not the British government strip these people from
their British citizenship and send them back to their home country from where
they came and brought this plague with them to the British soil.
I am writing this letter to you because in Nottingham there
is a large population, which is from South Asia and it’s been three years I am
living in this city. I like to inform you that force marriages and acts of
domestic violence in this city of Nottingham are a very common thing.
The problem is that the crimes are not being reported and
criminals are not being dealt strictly.
So, I like to have your attention. I think, instead of
spending on Ring Roads and turning the whole city in a 20 mph zone, issues like
these are more important.
Sajan
