Me, Nottingham and Discrimination

I am living in this city as an international student for around two years. I have experienced quite many things. In this, what I am writing I do not know what should I call this. I want to write about my experiences in this city of UK as a Pakistani student from Saudi Arabia.

Students come to this country from around the global to study, to get education, to learn something. People come in this country as students on student visas. When they arrive here they join local students and they form a large group of students, they all become students under one roof without any differentiation.

This country is champion of equality and justice. I do not understand when it comes on the matter of fees why there is a very big difference, where local students do not have to pay too much fees and whatever the local students are paying, they get support from everywhere. On the other hand, international students have to pay more than one can even imagine. The fees touches the sky, the international students have to pay triple fees as compare to local students.

I heard a lot about equality in the colleges and universities through student union but I do not understand that how can local students be equal to international students or vice versa.

For example, a local student goes on a shop and likes to buy something. He/she buys a product with a price tag on it. Then an international student goes to the same shop and wants to buy the same product with the same price tag but somehow his/her appearance or whatsoever the shopkeeper comes to know that the student is international. When an international student goes to the shopkeeper and asks him/her that I want to buy this product. He/she triples the price. The international student gets shocked and asks what is the reason for this. He/she says just because you are not from this country you has to pay more. On this, the international student says it does not matter from which country I am. I am a student, I am in this country for an education, and we all are equal. However, the shopkeeper insists on the price he/she has offered.

When this happens to me, it reminds me the era of colonialism, British India in a modern form.

Recently, I write a note to my principal asking the same question. I was contacted by the international office of my college regarding my question to the principal but could not get a satisfactory answer. The international office has no sensible answer to my question.

Student Union is standing against the decision of the government to raise the fees of local students. On the other hand, we international students are paying high fees from ages why no one ever protested against this? What is the meaning of student union?

Irresponsible response from the management of Kout Food Group (KFG)

To, Dione Hamilton & Arron Morley Dear Sir or Madam:             I have accepted your invitation, which I just got now. I will be there on Monday 24 th September 2012 at 06:00 PM at Burger King Lady Bay Retail Park. First thing first, will you please tell the GM Yanna Li and the senior members of staff, of Burger King, Lady Bay Retail Park, to stop spreading rumours about my family and me. If anyone has any problem with me, so come and deal with me. I will not tolerate any rumours regarding my family and me. I am not happy with the presents of Area Manager Arron Morley and GM Yana Li. The reason for sending my resignation to the Area Manager Arron Morley was to bring this matter under his knowledge but the rumours I am getting from Burger King, it is very hard to trust anyone in this business now. I have no objection with the presents of Louise Mounsey in the investigation. Inste...

Pakistan, A Herd of Sheep

It's very surprising and shocking to see that how Pakistani people living in the West are concerned about Syria. I like to ask these people that what about people living in Pakistan. Why don't these people show their concerns for their country of origin?   Why don't they show concern about the corruption of the government? Why don't they show concern when elections are rigged? Why don't they demand for voting rights for Pakistani nationals living in foreign countries? Why don't they demand for electoral reforms in Pakistan if they claim that it's a democratic country? Why don't they show concern about feudal lord and landlord system of the society? Why don't they show concern about political dynasties ruling the country? Why don't they show concern about poverty in Pakistan? Why don't they show concern on deteriorating law and order situation in Pakistan? Why don't they show concern when the army train, support and e...

Dear Muhajir Nation III

O Muhajir people  You are being a target to be divided and you know well what happens when you are divided.  Never forget your history. Never forget what is happening since 1947 till now.  When you came as refugees you were rejected by the local people and asked to go back from where ever you have come from.  In 1971, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman asked for your help for independence, you said no you will support West Pakistan and when West Pakistan lost they deserted you, living your brothers and sisters stateless, which are still stateless in Bangladesh. Similarly, Bengalis who are left in West Pakistan are stateless till date.  There was a reason to create Muhajir Quami Movement (MQM). When this movement became popular, the local feudal lords and landlords didn’t liked it and don’t like it till date.  They have tried to crush Muhajir nation time by time. Never forget military operation in early 1990’s, which was called Operation Clean U...
